Growing Plants in Tucson

Cold Temps

Posted by spacegurrrl on December 27, 2008

Well, we’ve had some unusual cold temperatures.  I have been worried about my small Plumeria seedlings I decided to plant in the ground.  We will see how they do.On the bright side, my Orchid bloomed.  This is the one I got from the Tucson Orchid Show.

Plumeria

Posted by spacegurrrl on September 28, 2008

My Kimo Plumera has decided to send out an inflo.

My Plumeria Pudica continues to bloom.  It’s still sending out inflos and branching out like crazy.  I have heard that Plumeria Pudica does not have a scent.  I have found that mine has a pleasant subtle sweet, candy-like scent.  It isn’t always fragrant.  It seems like it happens mostly in the evening.

New Adenium Bloom

Posted by spacegurrrl on September 19, 2008

After what seemed like forever, one of my Adenium seedlings finally flowered for the first time.  It has a soft pink edge and a white petal with a yellow center.

Plumeria In Tucson

Posted by spacegurrrl on September 5, 2008

Well, I had ordered some Plumeria seeds from texashotplants.com.  They were pretty cheap ($3 for a package of 15!).  They were no names, just pink, white and yellow.  They were out of stock on the yellow so I ordered one package of Pink and one of White.  Some of them sprouted and the ones that did are doing great.  I decided that I would plant these in the ground this year.  I just did.

It seemed like last year, the weather was warm until December.  I am hoping that it will be the same this year.

I planted three of them in the ground and we will see how well they do.

My concern is that they will be in all day sun, and in the winter, they will be in the coldest part of the yard.

Adenium

Posted by spacegurrrl on July 4, 2008

This is one of the Adeniums I got from buried treasures. It seems like the larger ones are healthier than the newly grafted ones. Some of the newly grafted Adeniums I have bought from them have died. 😦

This one is doing well.

Strawberries

Posted by spacegurrrl on July 4, 2008

I like strawberries.  I had plans of raising lots of them, but, the birds seem to beat me to them.  This year, the birds, so far, have stayed away.  These strawberries aren’t very sweet.  They are good though.

More Adeniums

Posted by spacegurrrl on July 4, 2008

I got these Adeniums from Wal-Mart.  I think they are kind of pretty.  They are nothing super special, but, they are pretty.

My Adenium Seedling

Posted by spacegurrrl on July 4, 2008

This is one of the seeds I planted last year from rare exotic seeds. I think it’s doing pretty well. The blooms aren’t anything special, but it is special to me  since it was from my first batch of sprouted Adeniums. This was a seed that was labeled as “Dark Forest”.
